We've committed to providing a wide range of services in a niche market. Each service we offer is a complement to our core service, HDD. All are performed by trained professionals and competent equipment. Horizontal directional drilling is not just for large construction project's, general contractors or municipalities. We install anything from a 19mm water service under a residential customers lawn to large or sidewalk to large diameter waterman's under water body and highways.
Pipe work and commissioning
Although the majority of our work is for contractors who perform pipe tie-ins, pressure testing, chlorination, we are well equipped to handle this also. Especially if the customer is interested in a full HDPE conversion.
HDPE PIPE FUSING
The pipe of choice for Direction Drilling in our region is HDPE. It is a fusible polyethylene product available in all common sizes, and pressure ratings you require. When properly spec'd we can install a fully monolithic HDPE system with no mechanical fittings burried, a huge advantage in our highly corrosive soils. WMDD can provide the pipe/pipe work along with fusing by certified fusing technicians.
Excavation
Excavation is part of any HDD project. Big or small, we provide it. Like the rest of our services, it is performed by a competent professional operator with safety and productivity in mind.
Horizontal Directional Drilling
This our core service and we are fully equipped with state of the art guidance systems and drill rigs to handle anything from a 19mm water service to a 500mm casing with distances up to 300 meters. If you have a conduit that you want installed but don't want or simply don't have the option to dig, HDD is likely the best option. Water, sewer, drainage, fibre op, electrical are all common applications. Unlike competitors WMDD's all-in approach to HDD means that your project is our #1 concern and will receive undivided professional attention until complete.

Our Recent Work
Shortts Lake Water Intake
September 29th, 2022
Our client for this particular project was interested something economically and environmentally sustainable. The task was to install a water intake 50 meters off shore in a minimum water depth of 4 meters. The permitting process took months, however the project itself was successfully completed in 1 day.
Eskasoni Sanitary Sewer and Water
January, 2023
Subcontracted by Northern Contractor's Limited we were tasked with installing new sewer and water mains out of harms way. Construction of a new bridge on John Paul Lane, Eskasoni. Despite some unforeseen difficulties, this particular project was completed on time and within budget allowing NCL to move forward with the bridge construction.
Highway 105 Conduits
February/March 2023
Drilling under Trans-Canada Highway 105 and installing 2x100mm HDPE conduits at multiple locations in ground conditions consisting of clay, sandy gravel, cobble, and sandstone. This work kicked off in early February. Adding winter temperatures and snow to the equation does not make drilling any easier. However, with proper planning and winter drilling procedures in place it is simply another part of puzzle. WMDD completed this work on time and budget despite snow storms, cold temperatures, multiple encounters with rock and boulders.
Pictou County 200mm watermain
Fall 2023
On this project we completed 9 200mm watermain installations. This included pipe fusing, excavation and HDD. These crossed a combination highways and waterways spec'd to be installed by HDD. We encountered many difficult ground conditions often within the same bore but due to our stock of reamers and drilling fluids we were able to select a combination for each specific ground condition we were able to install all required bores with what could be considered an undersized drill rig for these conditions. We have since added a larger rig but completing these bores with our JT2020 is a testament to our abilities. These went so well we wound up converting more sections to be drilled at then general contractors request.
DNA Highway electrical conduit installation
June 2023
On this project we were tasked with the supply and installation of 4 x 100mm HDPE conduit to be used as electrical conduit. If you've driven on this highway you can imagine the ground conditions we drilled through with no complications. To get an idea of time to complete projects like this we spent 1 day on site fusing/staging our pipe, and establishing a traffic plan with the contractor. The following day we mobilized the drilling equipment, completed the bore, packed up and moved out all in the same day.
Sewer lateral pipe bursting
October, 2023
The client for this particular project was interested something economically and environmentally suitable. There was a building over top of the existing pipe so a trench was not an option. By pipe bursting the existing collapsed asbestos concrete sewer lateral under the existing building we were able to turn what would have been a huge project into a day long affair with the help of another local contractor handling the excavation and tie-ins.
